DETAILED ITINERARY OF 7 DAYS UGANDA SAFARI

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the representative of Focus East Africa Tours and after a short briefing about the safari, you will set off on a journey to Kibale Forest national park the capital of primates. On your journey to western Uganda you will pass by the prehistoric Fort Portal Town, when you arrival in Kibale Forest National park you will have lunch at your lodge and rest for a while. In the afternoon you will lounge around the lodge while enjoying the scenery of the very old volcanic terrain, views of Rwenzori Mountains and the Bunyarunguru Crater Lake.  You can also decide to take a dip in the cool swimming pool, in the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight.

Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale

Meal plan: lunch and dinner

Day 2: Kibale Forest National Park

Wake up early, have breakfast and head to the park for chimpanzee tracking, an experience on which you will encounter habituated chimpanzee families in Kibale Forest. You will have a briefing at the park’s headquarters in which you will be taken through the rules and regulations to follow during this experience, then trek into the thick forest of Kibale looking for the chimpanzees in the very natural habitat. As you trek you will be able to hear the echoes of chimpanzee sounds and see chimpanzees as they feed, swing and playing on the tree. After the experience you will head back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will go for a visit to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary which supports a variety of wildlife and birdlife, some of the wildlife species you will be able to see include black and white colobus monkeys, baboons and birds such as the uncommon Papyrus Gonolek and the Great Blue Turaco among others. You will also visit various community projects and later in the evening you will head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Have early breakfast and depart for Queen Elizabeth national park, the most famous Uganda wildlife destination, along the way you will enjoy the magnificent views of Rwenzori Mountains as you head to park.  On arrival to the park, you will have en-route game drive as you head to the lodge for lunch, on the game drive you will be able to see a variety of wildlife such as large herds of Uganda Kobs in Kasenyi plains, elephants, leopards among others.

After lunch at your lodge you will return to the endless savannah plains of the park for a game viewing experience on which you will be able several wildlife species inhabiting in the park such as elephants, cape buffaloes, leopards, antelopes, bush pigs, hippos, lions among others and many bird species. After the sunset you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Trekking

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee trekking experience, Kyambura Gorge is an exceptional area in Queen Elizabeth national park with an exceptional natural setting which is very different from the neighboring grasslands. Thick forests dominating the gorge are a home to several primates including chimpanzees which are the closest relatives to humans, the chimpanzee families in Kyambura gorge are very mobile and finding them takes about 13 hours and when you encounter them you will be amazed to spend time with them while watching their behavior. After the experience you will head back to the lodge for lunch and in afternoon you will head to Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise, the channel connects Lake Gorge to Lake Edward and is a home to biggest population of hippos in Africa. during the boat cruise you will be able to see many animals such as elephants, cape buffaloes, Nile crocodiles and others which come to shores to drink water and take a bath. In the evening you will head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Bwindi Forest National Park

Wake up early for breakfast, exit the park on en-route game drive and proceed to Bwindi Forest Impenetrable national park a famous Uganda safari destination for mountain gorilla trekking. You will drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park where you will be able to spot the tree climbing lions, as you head to Bwindi impenetrable national park you will be able to enjoy the magnificent views of the hilly nature of the area and the tall forest trees. On arrival, you will check into your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will take a tour around the lodge or visit the neighboring villages. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking In Uganda

Have early morning breakfast and head to Bwindi forest for the thrilling mountain gorilla trekking experience, you have briefing at the park’s quarters where you will be taken through the rules and regulations to follow during the experience, be grouped into 8 then head into the forests in search for mountain gorillas. Mountain gorilla trekking experience takes about 36 hours depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and where they spent the last night, during the guided trek through the verdant forests you will be able to encounter numerous of birds, butterflies, plant life and others inhabited in the park.

When you encounter the gorillas it is an exciting experience to come face to face with these giant animals, you are allowed to stay in their presence for one hour and when it elapses you will trek back to the park’s headquarters where you will be rewarded with gorilla trekking certificates. Return to your lodge for an afternoon of resting or visit the local community visiting the Batwa people (pygmies) who are the tribal residents of the forests and native residents to Bwindi, visit and learn about the community projects such as the Amagara project which helps the resident farmers and Bwindi Community Hospital which offers medication and educational services to more than 60000 people. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Departure

After early breakfast, you will checkout of lodge and set off on a drive back to Kampala enjoying the magnificent views of the rolling green hills and farms. Along the way you will have lunch and arrive in Kampala in the afternoon. Head to your hotel to the airport for your departure flight back home.
