Detailed Itinerary of 7 Days Gorilla Trek Uganda & Rwanda

Day 1: Arrive Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and be transferred to Kigali City for a short city tour visiting the Kimironko Market, Kigali Genocide Site and several art centres. After lunch. Depart for Volcanoes National Park at around 2 pm. The journey involves driving to the North where you will pass through eye-catching terraced hills which are the case with most of the country’s terrain, steadily as climb to the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes, there is a possibility of seeing the 5 Volcano Peaks.

Overnight at Kinigi guesthouse or, La palme, La bambo lodge,Volcanoes Virunga Lodge or the Gorilla View lodge (FB).

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Rwanda

Set out for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Join other trekkers at the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about the dos and don’ts during the trek and while in the presence of the gorillas. Tracking the mountain gorillas through the light forested mountain slopes of the stunning Virungas is a thrilling experience. When you eventually meet the gorilla, you will be allowed an hour with them, seeing them feed, play and look after their young ones. From here you will return to the lodge for late lunch.

Important to note – some gorillas families are hard to find so the tracking may last the entire day especially during the rainy months as the paths are quite muddy.

Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking experience

Today you will visit the beautiful golden monkeys (at an extra fee payable at the time of booking) or opt to drive directly to Gisenyi, or visit Ross Carr’s orphanage as well as Lake Kivu, or walk to Lake Bulera, or hike the Bisoke or Muhabura volcanoes, or alternatively visit one of the local schools and the local community projects.

Day 4: Trek Dian Fossey’s visit and transfer to Uganda

After breakfast you may choose to relax at the lodge, take a walk around or walk to Dian Fossey’s grave. In the afternoon after your lunch you will head to Uganda with border crossing at Cyanika Border. Arrive in the park in the evening, check-in, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Uganda

Today is a grand day for an incredibly fascinating gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, wake up early for breakfast and head to the park for gorilla trekking experience, join other trekkers at the park headquarters for briefing about the rules and regulations governing the whole experience.

You will be allocated a gorilla family to trek and head into the forests of Bwindi looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. You are allowed to spend one hour with the gorilla watching them feed, groom each other, gorilla babies playing and take amazing pictures. Return to the park headquarters to meet your guide and head back to your lodge for an evening of rest, have dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Visit Lake Bunyonyi

Enjoy a delicious breakfast, meet your guide and drive to Lake Bunyonyi – the second deepest lake in Africa and the deepest in Uganda. Arrive in time for lunch at your beautiful lodge, spend the rest of the day at leisure or go for a canoeing experience on the calm waters of the lake and visit the beautiful islands found in the middle of the lake. Have dinner and overnight at Acacia Lodge

Day 7: Drive to Kampala

After breakfast you will be driven to Kampala or go directly to Entebbe International Airport where you will arrive in the evening for your departure flight.
