Detailed Itinerary of the 7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

On day 1 of the 7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari, upon arrival at Kigali city at 5 am, wait up at the airport and meet your driver at 6 am to transfer to Kibale forest National Park – the best safari destination in Africa for chimpanzee tracking. It’s about 6-7 hours’ drive. Arrive at the lodge early afternoon, check in at the lodge, have lunch, and spend your afternoon relaxing at the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at Chimpanzee Forest Lodge or Turaco Tree Tops Lodge for mid-range or Kibale Forest Lodge for budget

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking – Bigodi swamp

On the 2nd day of the 7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari, after breakfast, you will go for chimpanzee trekking with your tracking gear. Meet your guide at the head office then enter the rainforest to start searching for the chimpanzee, this will take 2-5 hours to find the chimpanzees. On seeing them, you will spend 1 hour with the chimpanzees while taking pictures.

After tracking, return to the lodge, refresh, and have lunch. Later afternoon/evening, go for a 2-3 hour nature walk in the Bigodi swamp and experience the different birds and primates. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay at the lodge as above.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi national park via Queen Elizabeth national park

After early morning breakfast, check out and embark on your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It’s about a 6-7 hours drive en route via Queen Elizabeth National Park for a morning game drive to catch up with the early risers. Explore the Kasenyi sector – a known mating ground for Uganda kobs and a hunting ground for lions. While on the game drive and lion tracking, expect to see some of the big four games including lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, as well as different species of antelopes, warthogs, and white Colobus monkeys just to mention a few.

Thereafter, proceed to Bwindi impenetrable national park with en-route lunch, and upon arrival late afternoon, connect to your booked lodge for check-in, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay at Buhoma Haven Lodge/Bakiga Lodge for mid-range or Buhoma community Rest Camp/Gorilla Mist Lodge for budget

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On the 4th day of the 7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari, have an early morning breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing by the ranger guides before embarking on your gorilla trek. Head into the forest and trek until you find the gorillas. Gorilla trekking can take 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. After finding the gorillas in Bwindi, you will be allowed only 1 hour and then return. Your driver/guide will drive you back to your hotel to relax and spend another night as above

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda) – Community tour

On the 5th day of the 7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari, after early breakfast, check out of the lodge and transfer to Rwanda via the Cyanika border and connect to Musanze. Upon arrival, connect for lunch then visit the Dian Fossey Museum and Ibywacu cultural village tour. Thereafter, connect to your booked lodge for check-in relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay at Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge for mid-range/Hotel Muhabura for a budget option 

Day 6: Golden monkey tracking – transfer to Kigali city 

On the 6th day of the 7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari, after early morning breakfast, drive back to the park headquarters for briefing about the endangered golden monkeys and be allocated a group. Connect to the tracking starting point and enter the forest to search for the rare golden monkey. This activity can take about 1-5 hours and is done with a closer view of the other primates in the park like the red-tailed monkeys, and Vervet monkeys among others. After viewing the rare golden monkeys for an hour while taking pictures and studying their behaviors, return to the base and meet your driver. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay at the lodge as above

Thereafter, transfer to Kigali city, which is about 2-3 hours’ drive. Upon arrival, connect to your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay at the lodge as above

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali – Kigali tour

On last day of the 7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari, after breakfast, check out and transfer to Kigali city, which is about 2-3 hours’ drive. Upon arrival, explore Kigali city visiting places like visit the Kigali genocide memorial and Kimoronko market and other places.

Depending on your departure flight schedule, you will either be dropped off at a hotel you advise in Kigali or transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight back home. End of safari.
