DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera national park
Kigali to Akagera national park: On the very 1st day the safari, you will be met and picked up from Kigali city either at a hotel or direct from Kigali international airport according to your communication. Our guide will then greet and introduce himself to you as you embark on a brief Kigali city tour on which you will enjoy visit sites like Kimironko market, shopping centers and Kigali genocide memorial center. Enjoy your enroute lunch in Kigali city before proceeding to Akagera national park the only savanna park in Rwanda. This is a 2-3 hours’ drive from Kigali city. Upon park arrival, you will check in your lodge, have an evening game drive in this stunning savanna park as you spot plenty of animals including Zebras, Buffaloes, Elephants and many more. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and stay overnight.
Day 2: Morning Game drive and afternoon boat cruise
Game drive and boat cruise: On the 2nd day of the safari, you will have breakfast before embarking on a morning game drive in Akagera national park. Game drives in Akagera national park enables you to get closer to animals as they roam this savanna park. Akagera national park is a recognized home for various species of animals and the only savannah park in Rwanda, on this morning game drive you will enjoying viewing animals like lions, rhinos, zebras, impalas, giraffes, Topis, elephants and many more. You will also spot various species of birds such as Senegal lapwings, giant kingfisher, grey crowned crane, open bill stock, papyrus Gonolek, and many more.
Afternoon boat cruise: After game drive, you will head back to the lodge for lunch after which you will spend your afternoon on a boat cruise along Lake Ihema. This boat cruise rewards you with a stunning and scenic views of different aquatic wildlife including Hippos, Crocodiles, water birds and many more that thrill along Lake Ihema. Later in the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight sleep as above.
Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali and city tour
Transfer to Kigali: After a relaxed breakfast at the lodge on day 3 of 6 days Akagera & Nyungwe forest safari, you will check out of the lodge and embark on your journey back to Kigali city. You are expected in the city by lunch time. Proceed to have lunch at a hotel in the city and embark on the City tour for as much as you please exploring the markets like Kimironko, craft shops, Genocide memorial sites and many more. After the city tour, you will proceed to check in your lodge for dinner and have a splendid night.
Day 4: transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park: After early morning breakfast on day 4 of 6 days Akagera & Nyungwe forest safari, you will checkout of your lodge and set off on a drive to Nyungwe forest national park, on your way you will have en-route visit to the Former king’s palace in Nyanza, visiting tea fields and have an enroute lunch. Proceed with your journey to Nyungwe forest national park which takes about 5-6 hours and when you arrive, you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight. There is an option of Community tour.
Day 5: chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
Chimpanzee trekking: After early morning breakfast on the 5th day of 6 days Akagera & Nyungwe forest safari, you will leave your lodge and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee tracking, a guide will brief you about the dos and don’ts to follow on this Chimpanzee trekking experience. After the briefing you will hike into the forests in search for chimpanzees, as you track for chimpanzees you will spot other primate species such as black and white colobus monkeys, Mangabey and many bird species such as Rwenzori Turaco, black and white casqued hornbill and many more. When you locate the chimpanzees you will spend one hour in the presence of the chimpanzees watching them play on tree branches and pick fruits, after the experience you will head back to your lodge for lunch.
Canopy walk: After lunch you will drive back to the headquarters for a canopy walk. Canopy walk is done on a high suspended walk way raised at about 50M above the ground almost a tree top height. While on the walk, you will enjoy viewing many wildlife that thrill in the Nyungwe forest including primates, mammals, birds, butterflies, lots of plant species and many more. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 6: Return to Kigali for departures
Nyungwe forest national park – Kigali: Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the comfort of your lodge on the last day of your 6 days Akagera & Nyungwe forest safari. And depending on your flight details, you will then check out of the lodge and embark on your drive back to Kigali Rwanda for either hotel drop off or airport drop off according to your next travel destination.
