This 5 days Mgahinga Gorillas, Golden Monkeys & Lake Bunyonyi Safari takes you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park – a primate destination located in southwestern Uganda. This small Ugandan park is the only place in Uganda where golden monkeys coexist with mountain gorillas, thus the saying, “Gold meets silver.”
On this Uganda Primate Safari you will have thrilling encounters with mountain gorillas and golden monkeys in their natural habitat, then head to the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi—the deepest lake in Uganda and the second deepest in Africa for a relaxation retreat.

Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Mgahinga Gorillas, Golden Monkeys & Lake Bunyonyi Safari
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
You will be picked up from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala, or at Entebbe International Airport upon arrival by our Driver-Guide, who will give you a briefing about the safari before setting off on a 10-hour journey to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Along the way you will have a stop at the Equator Crossing and lunch in Mbarara.
Continue your journey with a scenic drive to Kisoro District through the flat lands of Ntungamo and the rolling hills of Kabale to terraced hills and meandering roads. Arrive in the evening and check in at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience
After your early breakfast, our driver guide will drive you to the park headquarters in time for briefing and registration. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while on a gorilla trekking expedition, head into the forest, led by armed rangers and guides in search of mountain gorillas.
The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Upon locating these endangered primates, spend one hour in their presence watching them play, feed and groom each other. Afterwards, return to your lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking Experience
After an early breakfast, you will transfer back to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for a full-day golden monkey trekking experience. After briefing, you will be led through the forest searching for a semi-habituated golden monkey troop.
Spend four hours watching the troop being habituated—a process through which the golden monkeys get used to human presence. Get to take photos and videos; get to observe individual characteristics of the golden monkeys; watch them play, feed and groom each other. Later return to your lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Lake Bunyonyi
After your breakfast, check out of your lodge and drive to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale District. This beautiful lake is the deepest in Uganda and the second deepest in Africa; it is the best place to relax after gorilla and golden monkey trekking. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge; later, go for an afternoon boat cruise visiting several islands located in local Bunyonyi as your guide narrates the thrilling stories behind these islands.
You also enjoy the beautiful views of the terraced green hills of Lake Bunyonyi. At sunset, return to your lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Departure
Today is the last day of your Mgahinga Safari. After a leisurely breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and embark on a journey back to Kampala, where you will be dropped off either at your hotel or at Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home or to your next destination, bringing your safari to an end.
