It was established in 164 which make it the oldest orphanage of its kind in Kenya, the orphanage offers educational and training services where more than 20 species of animals and bird species are rehabilitate back to health after being abandoned and injured. Each and every animal hosted at the orphanage has been taken by the rangers and provide with the necessary medical treatment, then they get placed in an individual rehabilitation program, giving them a second chance to life. The purpose of the Nairobi Orphanage is treating the animals well and helping them to get their health and releasing them to African wild again.

The Nairobi Orphanage offers rehabilitation for animals such as monkeys, baboons, cape buffaloes, warthogs, lions, cheetahs, rare Sokoke cats, jackals, servals, hyenas, and many others. The orphanage also rehabilitates birds such as ostriches, parrots, guinea fowl and crowned cranes, among others. All these wildlife and bird species receive medical examinations and necessary treatment before being placed in a feeding and rehabilitation program based on the individual needs.

How to Get There?

Nairobi Animal Orphanage is situated near the Kenya Wildlife Service along Langata Road and from the city center, it is a 7-kilometer drive or walk. To get to the Orphanage one can use either public transport or private means.

  • Public transport—you can get a matatu or a bus from the Nairobi Railway station, the one that is heading to Rongai and it charges about 40-50 KES.
  • Private transport—You can request an uber, take a cab or use a safari vehicle to get to the orphanage.
