Masai Mara National Reserve is located in South western Kenya approximately 255 kilometers southwest of Nairobi and right next to the border between Tanzania and Kenya.
Masai Mara National Reserve is the largest section of the Masai Mara Ecosystem and is home to the largest concentration of animals in the ecosystem. At the sixe of about 370,000 acres, Masai Mara National Reserve is slightly bigger than Los Angeles in United States of America and shares unfenced borders with a number of private conservancies which are administered by the Masaai local people.
Masai Mara National Reserve is the northern – most part of the Mara – Serengeti ecosystem famous for the annual wildebeest migration, the landscape of the reserve is dotted with thorn trees, kopjes and craters. The reserve is drained by its major rivers that is the Sand, Talek and Mara Rivers.
The remarkable and iconic Masai Mara National Reserve under the management of The Narok Country Government has announced an increased in the park fees for the reserve, these new Masai Mara Park Entry Fees are applicable to all travelers visiting the reserve for a Kenya Wildlife Safari starting from 1st January 2024 onwards.
Note: For Kenyans residing in the Narok Country, they will pay less than anyone else per day and their children below the age of 10 will enjoy free entry to the reserve. Also, all the new rates follow different seasons of travel
Rates for Non-Residents from 1st January 2024
1st January – 30th June 2024 (inclusive) for non-residents
- USD 100 per day, per adult
- USD 50 per day, per child (9-17 years; 8 years and below are free)
1st July – 31st December 2024 (inclusive) for non-residents
- USD 200 per day, per adult
- USD 50 per day, per child (9-17 years; 8 years and below are free)
Rates for residents from 1st January 2024
- 1st January – 30th June 2024 (inclusive) for residents:
- Ksh.3000 per day, per adult
- Ksh.1000 per day, per child/student (9-17 years; 8 years and below are free)
- Ksh.2000 per day, per adult Narok resident
- Ksh.500 per day per child Narok resident (10-17 years; 9 years and below are fee)
- Ksh.4500 per adult East African Resident
- Ksh.2000 per day per child/student East African Resident (10-17 years; 9 years and below are fee)
1st July – 31st December 2024 (inclusive) for residents:
- Ksh.3000 per day, per adult
- Ksh.1000 per day, per child/student (9-17 years; 8 years and below are free)
- Ksh.2000 per day, per adult Narok resident
- Ksh.500 per day per child Narok resident (10-17 years; 9 years and below are fee)
- Ksh.4500 per adult East African Resident
- Ksh.2000 per day per child/student East African Resident (10-17 years; 9 years and below are fee).
While the increase in the Masai Mara Entry fees is substantial, we anticipate the expected increase in revenue to the reserve from the changes could significantly improve the safari experience for travelers in Masai Mara National Reserve in form of increased ranger patrols, anti-poaching efforts and better maintained roads among others conservation initiatives.
These fees are effective from January 1st 2024 and also the implementation of a 12-hour rule (6 am – 6 pm) is with immediate effect and applies to any guests departing the Masai Mara National Reserve after 11 am where an additional (full day) park fee will be charged. Those departing on the morning flight schedule are not affected.
Guests undertaking any activity such as a Hot air balloon safari within the Mara Triangle or Mara conservancy on the morning of departure are required to pay a full day park fee on that day.
