Mountain Rwenzori national park was first gazetted as a game reserve in 1991 and it was later established as a national park and it was named as a UNESCO Heritage site in 1994 covering a total surface area of about 996 square kilometers. More so, this national park is well known to have derived its name from Mountain Rwenzori that is commonly referred to as the mountain of the moon and it stands at an elevated area of about 5,109 meters above the sea level.
