The safari starts with a visit to Kibale National Park for an amazing encounter with man’s closest relative – the chimpanzee. Kibale is known as the “primate’s capital of the world”. It is arguably the best place to track chimpanzees on earth. 13 primate species can be seen in Kibale National Park. You would the proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park for 2 game drives, a launch cruise and spotting the rare tree climbing lions of Ishasha sector.  The first game drive is done from the Kasenyi plains while the last game drive is at the Ishasha plains. In between, there is a launch cruise at the famous Kazinga channel for one of the best wildlife experiences in Africa. It’s worth mentioning that the scenery is beautiful in western Uganda. From the endless savannah grasslands in Queen Elizabeth National Park to the amazing views of the Rwenzori Mountains, tourists will be very impressed.

From Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will proceed for gorilla trekking in the great Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The thick jungles of Bwindi are also home to chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, butterflies, forest hogs, forest elephants and an amazing collection of birds. Gorilla trekking remains the most popular activity in Bwindi. After an encounter with the gorillas and visiting the Batwa pygmies, the journey continues to Lake Bunyonyi. This lake is covered by about 20 small islands and provides one of the best scenery in Uganda. Its natural beauty makes it a favourite for tourists who wish to relax after or in-between a long safari. After relaxing, island hopping and canoeing on Lake Bunyonyi. Your safari will end with a drop off in Kigali for your departure.

Detailed Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park – Bigodi nature walk

Depending on your location in Kampala, you will be met by our company representative/driver guide and start your 6 hours’ drive to Kibale forest national park in the western part of Uganda with stopovers to stretch and lunch depending on your location and time.

Connect to your lodge with en-route visit of the crater lakes near the park. Explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. The reserve is abundant with butterflies, plants, animals and, in particular, birds. Spectacular birds like Great Blue Turaco and rare Papyrus Gonolek will be of great interest to birders. The swamp is also home to more elusive animals such as Red Colobus monkeys and sitatunga antelope. Dinner and overnight stay at Turaco TreeTops/Primates Lodge

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking activity – transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park – evening game drive

On the 2nd day of your 6 Days Uganda Primates Safari, After breakfast, drive to Kibale park head offices for briefing about the chimpanzees. Enter the forest and start trek the chimpanzees in their natural habitat, its take 2-5 hours to find them and on finding them, you are allowed 1 hour to be in their process as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor.

After lunch, transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park, it’s a 3 hours’ drive arriving at the park in the evening for an evening game drive before you proceed to check-in at your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Elephant Hub Lodge/Kikorongo Safari Lodge

Day 3: Ishasha game drive – transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, start your journey to Bwindi forest. It’s a 4-5 hours’ drive with en-route game drive in Ishasha sector for chances of seeing the tree climbing lions and other animals, with en-route lunch, proceed to Bwindi forest to check-in at your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Mahogany Springs Lodge/Buhoma Haven Lodge  

Day 4: Gorilla trekking experience and Batwa community tour 

After enjoying an early breakfast and transfer to park headquarters for the briefing before you set off gorilla trekking. Trekking through the steep, densely forested hills and then finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Tracking in the Bwindi forest requires stamina and can often take most of the day and spend an hour in the presence of the gorillas before you return at your meeting point with the driver-guide to return to the lodge.

Later afternoon, connect to the Batwa community and learn about the way of life of the Batwa community. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above

Day 5: Explore Lake Bunyonyi

On the 5th day of your 6 Days Uganda Primates Safari, After having breakfast, check-out of the lodge to transfer to Lake Bunyonyi which is 3-4 hours’ drive from Buhoma sector of Bwindi forest. Upon arrival, connect to explore the lake on a boat ride and visit some of the islands on the lake. Bunyonyi comprises of 29 islands especially the punishment island and the lake is the best place of relaxation. After your lunch, optional activities you can do include; Zip-lining experience, Quad biking, nature walk. Dinner and overnight stay at Arcadia Cottages Lake Bunyonyi/Bunyonyi Eco-Resort

Day 6: Transfer to Kigali – Rwanda

After breakfast, start your journey to Kigali, which is a 4-5 hours’ drive with en-route lunch. Upon arrival and depending on your drop off advice, you will either be dropped at a location you advise the driver or at the airport for your departure flight back home.
