These two Uganda safari destinations are habitats to a huge population of primates that are the world’s largest population of the endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi and the largest population of chimpanzees in East Africa found in Kibale.

Detailed itinerary of 5 days Uganda safari, Gorilla & chimpanzee

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi National Park

To start off your safari you will be picked from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala by our professional guide, after a short safari briefing you will  drive to Bwindi impenetrable Forest national a famous Uganda safari destination best known for hosting half of the total population of mountain gorillas in the world. The park is dominated by thick forest canopy and the gorillas live on the lowlands of this mountainous Area, you will have lunch along the way. You will also enjoy scenic views of the mountainous area of Kisoro also known as the Switzerland of Africa, arrive in the park in the late afternoon, check into your lodge and rest for the evening. Have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Tour

After early breakfast, toy will head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about the rules and regulations to follow on mountain gorilla trekking experience and while in the presence of the gorillas. This marks the beginning of mountain gorilla trekking, you will then be grouped into 8 people and be assigned a gorilla group to trek and then head in to the forests of Bwindi looking for mountain gorillas.  Tracking for mountain gorillas takes about 24 hours depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and where they spent the previous night, however with the help of a guide you will be able to find the gorillas. Upon finding the gorillas, you will be given one hour of staying in their presence while observing their behavior as they play on trees, picking leaves and females taking care of their young ones.

Then you will trek back to the park’s headquarter to pick mountain gorilla trekking certificates, then head back to your lodge or go on a visit to the local community or the batwa pygmy people who are natives of the Bwindi Forest. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Drive to Kibale National Park

Have a heavy breakfast, you will depart from Bwindi impenetrable national park and head to Kibale national park a primate capital and a home to the largest chimpanzee population in the Africa, the park is dominated by several sections of rainforests sheltering several species of birds and primates. Along the way you will have lunch and when you arrive in Kibale national park you will check into your lodge and in the evening you can go for awalk around the lodge or to the local community. Have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking Tour

Have early morning breakfast and head to the thick forests of Kibale Forest for a chimpanzee tracking experience, you will be briefed about the experience and then head  into the forests looking for chimpanzees. As you hike through the forests you will be able to see other primates such as baboons, bush – babies, colobus monkeys and the Mangabeys. With a help of a guide you will find the chimpanzees in their natural habitat which you will enjoy watching as they play on trees and pick fruits. After the experience you will head back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will head to the impressive Bigodi Swamp where you will enjoy watching many birds such as Papyrus Gonolek, white winged warbler, blue kingfisher and primates such as blue monkey, vervet monkey, and red tailed monkey among others. Return to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: Drive Back To Kampala

After breakfast, you will checkout of your lodge and embark on a journey back to Kampala, along the way you will have lunch and a stopover at the equator for some pictures. Arrive in Kampala late in the afternoon, be dropped off at the hotel or at the airport for your departure flight.
