DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera national park

Kigali to Akagera national park: On the very 1st day of 4 days Akagera Wildlife & Nyungwe forest Chimpanzee safari, you will be met and picked up from Kigali city either at a hotel or direct from Kigali international airport according to your communication. Our guide will then greet and introduce himself to you as you embark on the journey to Akagera national park the only savanna park in Rwanda. This is a 2-3 hours’ drive from Kigali city. Upon park arrival, you will check in your lodge and embark on a boat cruise along Lake Ihema. This boat cruise rewards you with a stunning and scenic views of different aquatic wildlife including Hippos, Crocodiles, water birds and many more that thrill along Lake Ihema. Later in the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight sleep.

Day 2: Morning Game drive and return to Kigali

Game drive and boat cruise: On the 2nd day of the safari, you will have breakfast before embarking on a morning game drive in Akagera national park. Game drives in Akagera national park enables you to get closer to animals as they roam this savanna park. Akagera national park is a recognized home for various species of animals and the only savannah park in Rwanda, on this morning game drive you will enjoying viewing animals like lions, rhinos, zebras, impalas, giraffes, Topis, elephants and many more.

You will also spot various species of birds such as Senegal lapwings, giant kingfisher, grey crowned crane, open bill stock, papyrus Gonolek, and many more. After the game drive, you will be driven back to your lodge for lunch and embark on a journey back to Kigali Rwanda. If time allows, you will enjoy an evening Kigali city tour exploring the market places like Kimironko, visit craft shops, Genocide memorial sites and many more. After the city tour, you return to your lodge for dinner and have a splendid night.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park

Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park: After early morning breakfast on day 3 of the safari, you will checkout of your lodge and set off on a drive from Kigali city to Nyungwe forest national park, on your way you will have en-route visit to the Former king’s palace in Nyanza, visit tea plantations (Optional) and have an enroute lunch. Proceed with your journey to Nyungwe forest national park which takes about 5-6 hours and when you arrive, you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight. There is an option of Community tour as well.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and Return to Kigali

Chimpanzee trekking: After early morning breakfast on the 4th day which is yet the last day of your 4 days Akagera Wildlife & Nyungwe forest Chimpanzee safari, you will leave your lodge as early as 5:00am and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee tracking, a guide will brief you about the dos and don’ts to follow on this Chimpanzee trekking experience. After the briefing you will hike into the forests in search for chimpanzees, as you track for chimpanzees you will spot other primate species such as black and white colobus monkeys, Mangabey and many bird species such as Rwenzori Turaco, black and white casqued hornbill and many more.

When you locate the chimpanzees you will spend one hour in the presence of the chimpanzees watching them play on tree branches and pick fruits. You will take as many pictures as possible but remember to keep your camera in silent mode and without flash light. After the experience with Chimpanzees, you will embark on your journey to Kigali with an enroute lunch near Lake Kivu. Upon reaching in Kigali city, you will be dropped off at the hotel of your choice or at Kigali international airport in case you have a late evening or night flight back home and this marks the end of your safari.
